The Showroom is Sheffield's longest running independent cinema. We are a registered charity and, as well as showing a huge range of independent film and world cinema, we are also a centre for film education and home to the sector development agency Film Hub North.
We are located in a converted 1930’s art deco building, in the heart of Sheffield city centre and our venue is a cultural hub for major festivals and events.
We have a sister trading company which runs the Work Station.
The Work Station offers managed workspace for the creative industries and has meeting and conference facilities which are used widely by local businesses and community groups.
We are looking to recruit new Trustees to join our board. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with the following knowledge and expertise:
Professional legal experience.
Building management, capital projects or environmental efficiency.
Hospitality and catering.
Developing relationships with, and programmes for, diverse communities and young people.
However, if you have alternative expertise to any of these areas, and feel that you have something to offer, please still get in touch as we review our Board regularly.
This is a unique opportunity to join an engaged, multi-skilled, creative and passionate Board and help shape and support the future of the organisation.
As a trustee you will oversee the operation of a flagship cultural cinema exhibiting a diverse film programme with first run and retrospectives of curated work, including archive, documentaries, and many unique one-off programmes with regular visiting filmmakers. It is an exciting time to join our journey as we begin a new three-year audience's programme, funded by the British Film Institute, and a major capital programme to restore our building and its heritage.
Trustees are required to attend approximately five Board meetings per year and to share their specialist knowledge and networks to further the objectives of the organisation. Attendance is usually in person, but hybrid options are available. If you have not been a Board member before we can provide training and support and answer any questions you may have. We welcome applications from all communities, particularly those who are underrepresented on our current Board.
